Američanka Ani Petrak, naše nová kolegyně, pootevřela dveře do nově otevřené americké knihovny v oddělení cizojazyčné literatury. Na co se mohou v budoucnu těšit její uživatelé? Kromě Ani tu můžete potkat i jejího chlupatého mazlíka. Tak se přijďte podívat.
Proč žije Američanka v Ústí?
„Kdybych dostala 5 korun pokaždé, když se mě někdo zeptá na tuto otázku, nemusela bych vůbec pracovat. Podobně by se lidé mohli ptát i na to, co pohledávám jako Američanka v ústecké knihovně. A na to ráda odpovím,“ říká Ani.
Nedávno otevřené oddělení Americké knihovny ve Velké Hradební 49 se stalo symbolem spolupráce mezi americkou ambasádou a Severočeskou vědeckou knihovnou. Díky tomu může ambasáda sdílet nejlepší a nejzajímavější nápady a znalosti o americké kultuře s ústeckými okresy a tím přispět k jejich potenciálnímu rozvoji. Ústecký kraj je tvrdý a silný region s pracovitými lidmi, který sehrál důležitou roli v historii celé České republiky a Evropy. Na druhou stranu má i jedny z nejhorších výsledků týkající se vzdělání. Rodilých mluvčí angličtiny je tu málo, většina zůstává v Praze. Sem přijdou jen ti nejodvážnější. A to byl hlavní důvod spolupráce s americkou ambasádou, přinést kvalitní materiály a výukové zdroje v anglickém jazyce do Ústeckého kraje.
Kromě rozšíření knihovního fondu s tématy o americké kultuře a dějinách, může naše knihovna díky ambasádě spolupracovat s různými diplomaty a odborníky z celého světa. Čtenáři budou moci využívat databázi eLibrary, kde najdou přes 125 milionů akademických článků a jiných zdrojů. Mohou si prohlížet knížky v angličtině a španělštině. K dispozici jim budou i další databáze s novinami, časopisy, dokumenty a filmy z celého světa.
Americká knihovna nabídne vzdělávání anglického jazyka s rodilými mluvčími ve formě kurzů, kroužků, přednášek a dalších akcí.
Budu se na vás těšit v oddělení cizojazyčné literatury. Na novém Instagramu @alul.american.knihovna naší knihovny pravidelně sdílím, co se u nás děje nového. What is an American doing here in Ústí?
If I had 5 kč for every time I heard that question, I wouldn’t need to work here at all.
While people ask me, an American, that question a lot, I am quite sure people may be asking the same question about the new American Library. And since I myself am not that interesting, I will explain what the American Library in Ústí nad Labem is doing here.
The American Library is a visible symbol of the American Embassy’s interest in the development of our region. The Embassy wants to share the best and most interesting ideas and knowledge about our American culture with regions where the see development potential. Ústecký kraj is tough, hardworking, with a long history of importance to the rest of the Czech Republic and all of Europe. It also has some of the starkest educational nedostatky in the Czech Republic today. Not many native speakers of English come to this region, they tend to stay in Prague. For this reason, we have decided to meet a need in the Usti region for quality information and materials in the English language.
We not only have a newly expanded section of books about the culture and history of the United States. Partnership with the US Embassy in Prague means collaboration opportunities with diplomats and professionals in all fields from all over the world. The embassy provides us with access to the eLibrary database, a hub for academic publications, periodicals, books with animation and narration in both English and Spanish, and a separate online library with thousands of documentaries and independent films.
The American Library will offer educational opportunities with native English speakers in the forms of courses, book clubs, lectures, film screenings, and activities. These resources will be our teaching materials, and our participants and readers will also have access to these materials through us.
